Reading and Writing--We will be wrapping
up our Character Study before the winter break. Please continue to discuss
characters your kids are reading about.How do the characters act? What do the characters SAY and DO.How do they feel?What happens to the characters across the
story?
Word Work--FUNDATIONS: We are finishing up our unit on
these glued sounds:ing/ang/ung/ong. And ink/ank/unk/onk.Our next unit will be introducing blends:
two consonants that stand together in a
word, but you hear each of their
sounds. Their sounds blend together
like in the words:
(dr) drill, (tr) trunk, (fl) flop, (gl) glad,
(nd) bend,(bl/st) blast.
We will also introduce “r-controlled”
vowel patterns:
/ar/, /er/, /ir/,
/or/ and /ur/
Like in the words: star, her, bird, corn, turn
Math:Our new unit is
all about:COUNTING AND MODELING NUMBERS.We are learning that when you count and skip count, you can find
patterns in numbers.We will count by ones to 120, count by tens starting at any number and
review counting by fives.We will also model place value.We will
practice counting and making pictures of numbers grouped by ones, tens and then hundreds.
Science:
SOLIDS AND LIQUIDS—We are continuing studying the attributes of solids
and liquids. Some big Sciences words we’re using are:liquid, solid, rough, smooth, observe,
property, transparent, opaque, translucent, viscous, evaporation, mixture,
colorless, foamy, bubbly, and flow.
Social Studies:We will be studying presidents, with a focus
on Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.We will read non-fiction books about these presidents and we will be
studying why they were an important part of history! We will compare and
contrast the lives of different presidents.
