Fundations is the program we use to study letters, sounds and making words. With multi-sensory activities, students learn how to blend letter sounds together to read and spell new words.
We also study words that do not follow the rules. Words that do not follow the spelling patterns are called, Trick Words (also often referred to as sight words). Because trick words do not follow the typical spelling rules , we memorize them by sight. Our goal is to master how to spell them and read them automatically.
Trick words will be introduced on Mondays, along with unit skill words, (skill words can be "tapped out", i.e., "sounded out" because they follow spelling patterns). Your child will be responsible for a total of 10 words that will be tested each Friday on the Spelling Test.
Spelling words will be listed each week on our webpage (click here) and will be reinforced nightly in your child's spelling homework that goes home in the folder each night.
