In Math we learned a lot about: measuring length and time. We practiced ordering objects from shortest to longest & longest to shortest. We measured items with non-standard units of measurement. We’re practicing telling time to the hour & half hour. We notice when the clock shows the hour is half-past. We will study Graphs and Data and then Geometrical shapes next!
In Reading, we are discovering how to study and research a topic. We are learning about many different subjects across different genres of writing, including: non-fiction texts, fiction texts and poetry. Some of the topics your child might be studying are: Frogs, Insects, Dogs, Ocean Animals, Zoo Animals, Plants & Seeds, Butterflies, The Body, Weather and much more! Ask your child what reading materials they are studying in class.
Be sure to stay determined to read each night at home! As the spring time gets busy with our extracurricular activities we do not want to neglect the importance of good reading habits. One thing research proves over again the more one reads, the more one grows as a reader! The spring time is a great time for us to blossom even more as readers.
Remind your child to use all he or she knows when they come to an unfamiliar word before you give them help. Ask them: What strategies do you know that can help you solve this word?
In Writing, we are finished up our unit on OPINION WRITING. We enthusiastically wrote about our opinions of our collections and then wrote reviews of our favorite places and things. Next up: Writing Like a Scientist. In this unit, we will learn how scientists write about the experiments they conduct. We’ll explore questions we have about matter, write about the materials we use, our procedures, results & conclusions.
In Science, We are studying INSECTS. We are observing live insects in different stages of their life cycles.
